Studio Sale

Welcome to my summer studio sale!

Since my last studio sale I have graduated from The Florence Academy of Art. The time has flown past unbelievably quickly, it has truly been a whirlwind of learning and an incredible technical education. That year would not have been possible without the proceeds from the last studio sale and so I wanted to say a thank you to everyone who supported me in that endeavour.

On to the next chapter! I am so excited to say that I have been awarded the 4th year graduate in residence position and can’t wait to begin this next chapter in September at The Florence Academy of Art. Over the course of this next year I will have the opportunity to really start exploring the multitude of ideas that resonate personally with me which I have been storing up in my head over the last three years with the backing of a strong technical foundation and surrounded by a network of dedicated and inspirational artists. I cannot wait to see what comes out of this year.

Included in this catalogue is a combination figure, portraits, still life and landscape paintings and drawings I have made over the course of my final year at the Florence Academy of Art.  They show the beginning of me discovering my own voice again and speak to the start of my journey as an artist and not just a student. By exploring different subject matter I have been able to expand my focus this year - continuing to hone my technical toolbox by making focused studies of the figure and copying the work of artists such as Velasquez and van Dyck but also paying closer attention to studying composition in portraiture and still life work in order to think more about narrative and psychological impact of a painting. The Self-portrait was a particularly interesting one in this regard - it was my first real attempt to paint my own face from life but to also try and convey my character to a viewer - it was an intensely personal experience, frustrating and eye-opening in equal measure. Landscape as always plays a role alongside these studio works - it is truly where lessons in light are learnt and brought back into the studio.

All the proceeds of this sale will be put towards funding my year as a graduate in residence at the Florence Academy of Art - this will include covering the cost of materials, models, studio and living expenses. This year I believe will be vital to kick starting my career as a professional artist, it will be an invaluable period of time in which I will have the studio space and the time to create a body of work for exhibition and to paint showcase pieces that I can enter into competitions and salons in order to get my name out there more publicly. Furthermore it will allow me to continue to work in an environment where I can collaborate with and learn from other artists who have a similar technical background and also be able to gain valuable teaching experience in one of the leading technical art institutions in the world.

Thank you!
